URL Encode is a text transform, not a lock
Prepare a query value so spaces, ampersands, and non-English characters survive in a link.
The text is percent-encoded locally.
Do not treat this as security
Encode the value, not the entire URL including https://, or you will break the link.
When URL Encode is the right page
URL Encode sits on this site because Text and URL Encoded are not interchangeable, even when they look similar in a file list. Prepare a query value so spaces, ampersands, and non-English characters survive in a link. Font conversions and developer utilities are paste boxes, not file uploads. People encode a parameter before they paste it into a link, or decode a link they received.
The text is percent-encoded locally.
What you give up by leaving Text
This tool works on text you paste. The text stays in the browser. The wrong input type produces the wrong output, and the page cannot guess which font you used.
Paste a copy. Keep the original document open beside it.
What you gain, and do not gain, with URL Encoded
The download has to be URL Encoded, because that is the format the next step named. People encode a parameter before they paste it into a link, or decode a link they received. Spaces, question marks, and non-ASCII text survive in a query string after encoding.
This is not encryption and not a way to hide a token.
A test that matches the real file
Start from the question the other software asked. If it asked for URL Encoded, URL Encode is the matching page. If it asked for something else, switch tools instead of hoping a similar extension will pass. Prepare a query value so spaces, ampersands, and non-English characters survive in a link. The text is percent-encoded locally. The limit is the part people skip, and it is the part that decides whether the download is usable. Encode the value, not the entire URL including https://, or you will break the link. The text stays in the browser. Try one line you can check before a whole document. Do not paste passwords. Check three things in the download: it opens, the Text material you cared about is still there, and the file size or the layout is what the form described. A new extension alone is not those three things. If a portal, a teacher, or a client rejects the file, send them the original Text as well when you are allowed to. URL Encode is a convenience copy. It is not a new master. URL Encode is a text transform for a payload you already understand. Encoding is reversible on purpose. It is not a lock, not a password store, and not a place for production secrets. Check the output before you paste it into a live request, and do not run the tool twice on text that was already encoded.
Here is the decision for URL Encode. You start with Text and you stop when a real program accepts URL Encoded. Nothing is uploaded. You can try one line first. Encoding twice produces a broken link. Decoding a string that was not encoded mangles it. If those two sentences describe a tradeoff you do not want, do not convert. Renaming the extension by hand will not do this job. Running the tool twice on its own output will not do it either.
Encode the value, not the entire URL including https://, or you will break the link.
A related step, if you still need one, is URL Decode.
Other jobs start from the homepage, where each tool is named for the conversion it actually does.
